Lives and works in Moscow
In her work Alina Belyakova explores the possibilities of the human figure and its plasticity. Her extensive experience in illustration and her academic training serve her practice not as a set of rules but as a basis for witty departures from accepted norms.
The figure in her works is not only the subject but also a stage where form acquires character and emotions come to the surface. Her compositions are built with an awareness of the process itself: colour, contour and movement come together in a recognisable visual language that is at once sharp and coherent. Working with archetypal images, Alina gives them a contemporary voice: her characters are both recognisable and universal. Interweaving the everyday and the grotesque, she creates a world in which the comic and the serious are inseparable.
Alina has taken part in group exhibitions and art markets and has completed a number of commercial projects and collaborations.
