Lives and works in Moscow

Gena Zhuk is an artist who has built his own visual language where irony meets strict compositional discipline. His painting is a flat surface filled with air and inner tension, where simplicity of form is the main tool. Gena captures states in which time seems to stop and the line between reality and its symbolic reflection fades.

Having started with graffiti on the street in 2009, Zhuk has focused on studio work since 2017. He uses laconic images, forms and characters: they belong to no particular time or place, yet they work as tools for examining language, memory and visual clichés.

Beneath the apparent naivety lies a carefully measured tension. The compositions are always extremely clear, with a deliberately flat perspective and no illusion of depth. Everything rests on the rhythm of forms and precise work with colour: for Gena, colour is not an accompaniment but an independent element of the drama. His works are a silent dialogue, a utopia in which everything has already happened.

Since 2019 Zhuk has exhibited as part of the art group Nasha Utopia. With the collective he took part in the first two editions of Perkinnale, at the ART4 museum and at the ZDES gallery on Taganka. These projects became an important part of the independent art scene that formed outside institutional and market frameworks.
