Lives and works in Moscow and Riga

Svetlana Topunova's artistic style took shape at the intersection of lively spontaneity and strict visual discipline. Having started with reportage photography, she developed her own language that combines formal precision with a carefully considered aesthetic of the frame. This foundation allows her today to work across a wide range of genres, from documentary to fashion and commercial projects.

For Sveta, her industry experience is not a limitation but a tool: skills honed in work with brands carry over into personal projects and become a method of research. Her personal series continue the logic of applied photography but, freed from its direct tasks, open up a space for contemplation.

Since 2015 Sveta has combined the roles of photographer and art director, working at the intersection of fashion, documentary and fine art photography. From 2019 to 2022 she was director of photography at KM20, where she oversaw e-commerce and editorial projects and shoots for brands such as Raf Simons, Marine Serre, Vetements, KNWLS, JW Anderson and others.

In parallel, her artistic work is developing in an institutional context. In 2025 her photographs were shown in the group exhibition Northernness (Millepiani, Rome). She also works actively with digital formats and installations, from a project for ASH Global x Sample Gallery at Tsvetnoy (2022) to visual content for the Yandex space at the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art (2024).
